Rick, this is such a fun glimpse at the insanely crazy, fun, gutsy, unforgettable experience of attending one of your keynote speaking engagements. (Anyone reading this comment: do NOT miss the 3-minute video found in the link furnished this essay: https://www.ricklewis.co/ )

The real kicker: the way you were punked by your client after the event. That look on your face, "pre-realization," is beyond priceless.

That’s so funny! And also, I think a lot of performers share your discomfort in casual social situations. I remember watching a documentary about a comedian (Maybe Jerry Seinfeld?) and he was as a reception where people eat (dammit I don’t know how to spell this word…and my autocorrect isn’t helping) small foods. He said to the camera “I don’t know what to do in situations like this. Onstage, I know exactly what to do.”

In the same way, Conan O’Brien tells the story of showing up to his 50th birthday party and realizing that every single person in the room worked for him. He realized that all he did was work. So to remedy this, he…started a podcast called “Conan Needs a Friend”. 🤦🏻‍♀️it’s a great podcast but it does not in any way solve his problem.
